Spring Pest Eradication

Well the heavy winter rains that we have had this year hopefully have gone and Summer is coming. With the dryer ground the Trust will shortly be carrying out a round of pest eradication for Possum and Wallaby.

There are no native species both Flora and Fauna on Kawau Island that are still not under immediate threat. There has however since the Trust began its work been a consistent improvement in the Islands health.

We have been working vigorously as funds permit to preserve what remnants of the ecosystem remain and provide both a gene pool and the conditions that would enable its recovery. The Trust would like to acknowledge the Auckland Council, Department of Conservation and Orillion ( Animal Control Products)  for the assistance provided to us this year.

We now invite landowners on Kawau who would like to participate in this round to make contact with the Trust through the contact us page of our website.

The coming round as it has been in the past, will be carried out by professional pest control contractors. This has proven over recent years to be very successful.

We also have available to supporters Possum Bait stations – Large Philproof type stations which have a plastic spacer provided for mounting.  If you would like to get a station again make contact with the Trust through the contact us page of our website.
